2010-06-09: If a citizen of Pakistan, India or Bangladesh marries a British citizen, she/he has to pass an English language test before her/his spouse visa to the UK is issued.

Ministers are bringing forward to the autumn measures requiring many immigrants marrying UK citizens to prove they have a command of English. Marriage partners from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh will be primarily affected.
